U.S. Coast Guard Academy Sports Information
NEW LONDON, Conn. - MIT fell to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, 1-0 and 2-0, in a NEWMAC doubleheader on Saturday. With the losses, the Engineers drop to 4-16 overall and 0-10 in conference play.
The Bears scored the only run of the first game in the third as DeCarol Davis and Meagan Schoenhardt led off with back-to-back singles. Davis advanced to third on a wild pitch before Heidi Miller's RBI ground-out plated the only run of the game.
Tech threatened in the seventh as Adrianne Hee led off with a triple. Batya Fellman grounded-out to third. As the throw was made to first base, Hee sprinted home. However, Coast Guard's Stephanie Kimmel came off first base, took the throw, and blasted a strike to Miller behind the plate, putting the tag on Hee.
On the mound, Leah Bogsted allowed just three hits and struck out 12.
In game two, Coast Guard got all it would need in the first inning as Schoenhardt led off with a single. She was bunted to second and scored on a RBI single by Adams. The Bears got an insurance run in the fourth. Kimmel led off with a single and stole second. Adrian Harris posted a double, scoring Kimmel.
Amanda Jason broke up the no-hitter in the sixth with a two-out single. Bogsted had another strong outing for MIT as she scattered four hits, walked one and struck out 10.
