Wellesley Takes Two From MIT

WELLESLEY, Mass. - The Wellesley College softball team swept NEWMAC foe MIT, 3-2 and 4-0 on Friday afternoon. The Engineers slip to 3-17 for the season and 2-10 in conference play.
In game one, Tech took a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning when Kaitlyn McCartney and Stephanie Brenman plated Adrianne Hee and Cheryl Texin on a walk and a single, respectively. The Blue tied the contest in the fifth. Amanda Tai and BarbaraJean Grundlock both scored on a single by Christine Sodaro. Wellesley made the game 3-2 in the sixth inning when Engineer pitcher Leah Bogsted walked home pinch-runner Laura Weslander. Bogsted was tagged with the loss, allowing six hits and striking out six Wellesley batters. Blue pitcher Jenna Harvey earned the win, fanning 13 and only giving up two hits.
Wellesley controlled game two in the circle as Kristie Goal allowed the Engineers two hits and struck out five. Harvey knocked in the Blue's only two earned runs. She recorded a single in the second and a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning to help give Wellesley the 4-0 victory. Bogsted pitched the first three innings for MIT, finishing with three strike outs and one walk. Katherine Bankert closed the game, allowing only one hit. Bogsted led Engineer batters with two hits on the afternoon. Melissa Tanner and Brenman each posted a single.
