CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – For the second time this season juniors Anna Kokensparger (Omaha, Neb.) and Wyatt Ubellacker (Georgetown, Ky.) were named the women's and men's Swimmers of the Week, respectively, by the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC). The duo led their respective teams to victories over Amherst College in dual meet action in the Zesiger Center Pool on Saturday.
Kokensparger was the only MIT swimmer to win multiple individual events in the women's competition, taking three victories for the No. 6 Engineers that helped the team to a close win over No. 7 Amherst. Her first individual victory came in the 200 Fly, in which she clocked a 2:07.75. She then came back late in the meet to take the 100 Fly as well, turning in a time of 57.43. She then picked up win No. 3 in the 200 IM, touching the wall in 2:08.88. Kokensparger was also part of the victorious 200 Medley Relay that started off the meet with a 1:47.42 winning time.
Ubellacker picked up a pair of individual wins for MIT that helped the No. 4 Engineers down 10th-ranked Amherst. He started his individual victories with a 20.86 time in the 50 Free that was good for the win. He then came back later in the meet in the 100 Fly, taking that event with a time of 50.77. Ubellacker also helped the Engineers score wins in the relays. He swam the third leg in the opening 200 Medley Relay that defeated its counterpart from Amherst by nearly 1.5 seconds in 1:33.23. In the 400 Free Relay he swam the leadoff leg and helped MIT to another win as they finished with a time of 3:07.07.
