CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - On deck at the MIT Winter Invitational this past weekend, swimmers and divers from the nine competing teams were seen wearing orange and blue t-shirts with a sketch of an armadillo. In an effort to support recently paralyzed MIT student-athlete Theo St. Francis, the MIT swim team sold t-shirts prior to the meet to raise funds for Theo's family's medical expenses.
Designed by Theo and his brother, the unique design has dual meaning. The armadillo is a resilient animal that Theo feels represents his strength and determination as he approaches his rehabilitation. More literally, the sketch was drawn of the last origami creature Theo created prior to his accident.
MIT was able to raise more than $1,600 to be sent to the Theo Fund. For more information on Theo's story, see here.
