Junior Mark Liao also enjoyed a great afternoon in the water, breaking the school record with a first-place finish in the 1000 free. Liao touched the wall in 9:53.41, edging Jim Bandy's mark of 9:53.96 in 1990. He came back later in the day and crushed the field in the 500 free, winning with a season-best clip of 4:44.51.
Other event winners for MIT's men's unit included: JP Carlucci in the 200 breast (2:12.85), Matthieu Fuzellier in the 100 back (53.77) and Kalvin Kao in the 200 fly (2:02.65). Freshman Julianna Edwards continued her strong rookie season with an impressive victory in the 200 back, posting a mark of 2:12.33 for a three-second victory.
