Tech Remains Unbeaten With Victories Over Babson and Bowdoin

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Senior captain Stephanie Sidelko swam a lifetime best 56.21 in the 100-yard freestyle on Saturday afternoon, helping MIT remain unbeaten with victories over Babson College and Bowdoin College. The win pushes Tech's record to 3-0 on the young season, while Babson falls to 3-4 and Bowdoin drops to 1-1.

The Engineers took a 210-62 decision over Babson and a 154-133 triumph over Bowdoin. Head-to-head, Bowdoin beat Babson, 197.50 to 69.50.

Overall, the Engineers took the top spot in six of the 14 swimming events. Sophomore Jen Chao led the way with three victories, including two individual in the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.20) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.25). She was also part of the victorious 200-yard medley relay team along with Katherine Thornton, Nicole O'Keefe and Sidelko, which clocked in a winning time of 1:54.17.

Thornton also took an individual triumph in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:56.78), while O'Keefe clocked in at 5:20.18 in the 500-yard freestyle for another victory.

Junior Sasha Brophy recorded Tech's other win, touching the wall at 1:59.22 in the 200-yard freestyle.

The Engineers return to action after the Thanksgiving break, when they travel to Wesleyan University on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 11:00 a.m. Babson will head to Simmons College at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 28, while Bowdoin hosts the University of Maine-Orono at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 20.
