Brandeis Slips Past Women's Tennis, 5-4

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – On Tuesday, the MIT women’s tennis team faced off against the team from Brandeis College on the duPont Tennis Courts. Though the Engineers held an early lead, the bottom of the lineup prevailed for the Judges, who narrowly escaped with a 5-4 victory.

MIT’s Leslie Hansen and Anastasia Vishnevetsky continued their dominance in the No. 1 doubles position, winning 8-4, while Judges Ariana Sanai and Nina Levine fought off an Engineer sweep by taking the No. 3 match 8-5, giving MIT a 2-1 lead after doubles.

In singles, Hansen posted a two-set victory [6-2, 6-4] over Rachel Rosman in the No. 1 position, and freshman Bianca Dumistrascu picked up another point for the Engineers in the No. 3 spot [1-6, 7-6, 7-5].

The Judges fought back hard, as Faith Broderick notched a win a No 2 [7-5, 6-4], while Mackenzie Gallegos, Levine, and Sarah Richman took the No. 4, 5 and 6 points to give Brandeis the slim, 5-4 edge over the Cardinal and Gray.

Brandeis (7-7) hits the courts next at Connecticut College on Sunday, April 11. MIT (5-10) plays again on Saturday, April 17, when the team travels to Saratoga Springs, N.Y. to face the Thoroughbreds of Skidmore College.
