CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- MIT coasted past the Bates women's tennis team for a 9-0 non-conference win on Saturday at DuPont Tennis Courts.
The Engineers (11-4), ranked 13th in the Northeast by the ITA, won the top two doubles matches handily, through Lauren Quisenberry and Candace Wu at the first spot and Julia Hsu and Bianca Dumitrascu at second doubles. The Bobcats put up a good fight at No. 3 doubles, with Erika Blauth and Kristen Doerer pushing Melissa Diskin and Katie O'Neal to the limit before falling 9-7.
In singles, only O'Neal needed a third set super tiebreaker to outlast Nicole Russell at fifth singles. Quisenberry and Wu each won handily at the top two spots while Hsu and Dumitrascu posted maching 6-2, 6-2 scores at third and fourth singles. Diskin beat Jenna Burke 7-5, 6-2 to cap the shutout for MIT.
MIT will host Vassar College on April 16th. Bates (4-9) plays host to Middlebury in a NESCAC match on Sunday, April 17 at 10 a.m.
