CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – On a rainy Saturday afternoon, MIT women's tennis won their tenth straight match, beating Simmons College 7-2 at JB Carr Tennis Bubble. MIT is ranked #27 in the country and #9 in the Northeast region, while Simmons is ranked #20 in the Northeast region. It was also Senior Day for MIT and Melissa Diskin, Jenny Dohlman, Jen Rees, and Sonya Makhni were honored during match introductions.
The match stayed close during the doubles competition, although Lauren Quisenberry and Candace Wu won easily at first by an 8-3 score. Simmons grabbed a point back when Margaret Teague and Allison Bodek won 9-8 over Julia Hsu and Diskin at second. Jen Rees and Jenny Dohlman were pushed to the edge at third doubles, but emerged with a 9-8 victory of their own.
The top singles matches were all MIT, as Wu and Hsu each posted straight set shutouts at second and third, respectively. Quisenberry also had no difficulty, beating Teague 6-2, 6-2 while Melissa Diskin pulled out a three set comeback win at fourth, outlasting Maile Macleod 3-6, 6-1, 7-5. Jen Rees won in straight sets at sixth, but Allison Bodek beat Jenny Dohlman 6-0, 6-1 to prevent MIT from sweeping the singles play.
MIT improves to 15-4 overall and will play their final match of the spring next Saturday at Trinity College at 12:00 PM. Simmons falls to 15-5 in their final regular season match of the spring campaign.
