CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sophomores Lauren Quisenberry (Corpus Christi, Texas) and Julia Hsu (Knoxville, Tenn.) combined to register a sweep of the weekly New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference women's tennis awards the league announced today. Quisenberry was named the NEWMAC Singles Player of the Week while Hsu teamed with Quisenberry to earn Doubles Team of the Week honors.
Women’s Tennis Sweeps Weekly NEWMAC Awards
Quisenberry had an outstanding week, as she went 3-1 at the top singles spot for MIT. In the Engineer's dual match against Babson College on Tuesday, Quisenberry registered a 6-2, 6-3 win to help MIT to a strong 9-0 team win and remain undefeated in the NEWMAC. This past weekend at the ITA New England Regional Championships, Quisenberry, seeded 9-16, was the only NEWMAC player to make the round of 16. She started off with wins against Tess Perese of Colby (6-2, 6-2) and Allyson Bernstein of Brandeis (6-2, 6-2), before falling to Tori Aiello from Middlebury in a tough three-setter (5-7, 6-4, 6-3).
Seeded 5-8 at the ITA competition, the duo of Quisenberry and Hsu were one of two NEWMAC teams to make the round of 16 in the doubles draw. They scored a strong 8-4 decision over Freeman/Whittaker from Babson to move into the quarterfinal round. There the Engineers faced the team of Worley/Shoemaker from Williams, with the Williams squad coming away with an 8-3 win.
