CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After completing a tremendous 6-1 regular season and advancing to the final of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) tournament, the MIT women's tennis team collected three first team all-conference nods while earning second team recognition at four more positions, as announced by the NEWMAC on Tuesday afternoon.
First team accolades went to senior Anastasia Vishnevetsky (Orange, Conn.) at third singles, sophomore Julia Hsu (Knoxville, Tenn.) at fourth singles and freshman Vynnie Kong (Cupertino, Calif.) in the number five position. Vishnevetsky and Kong completed perfect regular seasons in league play with Vishnevetsky compiling a 5-0 mark in the number three position and Kong going 7-0 against the rest of the league's number five players.
Freshman Juana Becerra (Bucaramanga, Colombia) was a second team all-conference honoree in the sixth singles position.
In doubles, the Cardinal and Gray swept all three second team selections. Vishnevetsky and sophomore Lauren Quisenberry (Corpus Christi, Texas) were tabbed a number one doubles and Hsu and freshman Michelle Dutt (Gurnee, Ill.) garnered recognition at second doubles. Becerra and Kong rounded out the honorees at the number three doubles position.
