Women’s Tennis Get Past Brandeis, 6-3

WALTHAM, Mass. – MIT won a pair of doubles matches and four of the six singles matches as the No. 23 ranked Engineers scored a 6-3 win over No. 24 Brandeis University in women's tennis play this afternoon. Junior Lauren Quisenberry (Corpus Christi, Texas) and sophomore Michelle Dutt (Gurnee, Ill.) each scored a pair of wins to lead MIT.

Quisenberry teamed with junior Julia Hsu (Knoxville, Tenn.) in the No. 1 doubles match to put up the first point of the day for the Engineers, as the pair edged Faith Broderick and Carley Cooke by an 8-6 score. Brandeis evened things up with an 8-3 win at No. 3, but MIT (15-4) came back in the No. 2 match with Dutt and freshman Sunnie Lampl (Bluemont, Va.) taking an 8-4 decision in their match to give the Engineers a 2-1 lead in the match.

Brandeis (7-6) tied things up with a win in the No. 3 singles match, but freshman Iris Zhuang (Allen, Texas) but MIT back on top with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6 over Maya Vasser. Freshman Meghana Vasireddy (Golden Valley, Minn.) gave the Engineers a two-point lead with her 6-2, 7-5 victory over Roberta Bergstein in the No. 5 contest. Quisenberry then clinched the match for MIT, holding off Cooke in the No. 1 match by a score of 7-6 (3), 7-5.

Dutt picked up the other victory for MIT, coming back from a set down to Simone Vandroff in the No. 4 matchup to score a 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 win.

MIT will take on No. 3 ranked Middlebury College in its next match, hosting the Panthers on April 19 starting at 5:00 p.m.
