BOSTON, Mass. – After winning the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) title last season, the MIT women's tennis team has been picked to repeat as champions in 2013 in the league's preseason poll released today. The Engineers were a unanimous choice to repeat, getting all nine first-place votes in the poll of the league's head coaches.
MIT returns six of its seven players that earned all-conference honors in 2012, including the NEMWAC Women's Tennis Athlete of the Year, senior Laruen Quisenberry (Corpus Christi, Texas). Wellesley College, which was the runner-up last season, was picked second in the poll, followed by Babson College and Wheaton College.
MIT will open the 2013-14 season on September 7 when they host first-year NEWMAC member Emerson College at 1:00 p.m.
