MIT Women’s Tennis Sweeps NEWMAC Awards For Second Straight Week

BOSTON, Mass. – For a second straight week the MIT women's tennis team has swept the weekly New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference awards the league announced today. Freshman Krystal Lai (Irvine, Calif.) who also earned doubles honors last week, was named the Singles Player of the Week, while the Engineers' doubles team of sophomore Victoria Tam (Rolling Hills Estates, Calif.) and freshman Elysa Kohrs (Half Moon Bay, Calif.) earned Doubles Team of the Week accolades.

Lai was victorious in both of her singles matches last week without surrendering a game in either while helping MIT to a 2-0 week and a clinch of the regular season NEWMAC title. Playing at No. 1 against Clark, she took a 6-0, 6-0 win against Sarah Sachs before dropping down to No. 4 against Wheaton where she won her match against Sarah Crom by the same 6-0, 6-0 score.

Tam and Kohrs, MIT's No. 2 doubles team, ran their season record to 7-1 overall and remained undefeated in NEWMAC play with a pair of impressive victories. Against Clark the duo defeated Kravetz/Snyder, 8-0, and then downed Wheaton's Brazell/Crom by an 8-1 score.
