INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Freshman Elysa Kohrs (Half Moon Bay, Calif.) will be getting a chance to play in her home state of California this season, with the announcement today that she has been selected to participate in the 2014 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships in the singles competition. It is the second consecutive year that and Engineer has been selected to participate in the Championships.
Kohrs, one of 32 players named to the singles championship field, is currently ranked No. 7 in the Northeast Region, was selected as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Rookie of the Year in the fall after posting a perfect 6-0 mark in NEWMAC matches. She was also the conference first team player at No. 2 singles and was first team at No. 2 doubles along with sophomore Victoria Tam (Rolling Hills Estates, Calif.), finishing with a 17-6 overall record in singles play this season.
Kohrs will be the fifth MIT player to participate in the singles championship, with the group combining to make a total of 12 appearances. The individual championships will take place from May 22-24 at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont, California and will be hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges.
