Bowdoin Overpowers MIT, 7-2

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Nationally-ranked No. 18 Bowdoin College defeated MIT, 7-2, in non-conference women's tennis action on Saturday. The loss lowered the Engineers' ledger to 9-4 on the year while the Polar Bears improved to 3-0.

The No. 3 doubles team of Yi Wang and Anisa McCree fell by a margin of 8-1 while Mariah Hoover and Leslie Hansen lost, 8-5, in the top spot. In the No. 2 position, Joanna MacKay and Serena Lin were edged out, 8-6.

Hansen put MIT on the board with a 6-2, 6-3 victory in the No. 1 singles position. Wang (No. 4) and Lin (No. 3) were defeated in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, and 6-2, 6-4, respectively. Hoover notched the Engineers' second win of the day by outlasting her No. 2 foe, 1-6, 7-5, 6-4. MacKay lost, 6-1, 6-3, in the No. 5 spot while Karina Pikhart fell, 6-4, 6-1, in the No. 6 slot.

In exhibition play, the doubles tandem of Emily Onufer and Katie Smyth lost by a margin of 8-2. Kerry Weinberg came up short in her singles match, falling by a decision of 8-4. Jackie Rogoff was defeated, 8-3, as Smyth rounded out play with an 8-2 loss.
