Women's Tennis Surges Past Springfield, 9-0

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT women’s tennis team topped Springfield College, 9-0, in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener for both teams. The Engineers’ ledger improved to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the league while the Pride fell to 0-1 on the year and 0-1 in the NEWMAC.

Anastasia Vishnevetsky and Melissa Diskin cruised past their No. 2 doubles foe, 8-0. Anisa McCree and Leslie Hansen along with Alex Hall and Yi Wang posted 8-2 decisions in their matches.

Vishnevetsky continued her dominance as she did not surrender a game to Melissa Weinstein in her 6-0, 6-0 victory in the No. 2 position. Hansen picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win in the top singles spot while Wang and Hall recorded 6-0, 6-2 decisions. Karina Pikhart defeated Tayla Pessolano, 6-1, 6-1, in the No. 6 slot as Diskin registered a 6-3, 6-0 win.

In exhibition play, Pikhart and Jen Rees defeated their opponent by an 8-1 margin. Kerry Weinberg notched a 6-4, 6-1 singles victory while Katie Smyth outlasted her foe, 7-6, 4-6, 10-6.
