Tech Defeats Springfield, 8-1

CAMBRIDGE, MASS. - Mariah Hoover did not drop a game in MIT's 8-1 win over Springfield College on Saturday. Teamed with Serena Lin at No. 3 doubles, the duo won 8-0. Hoover then took her No. 5 singles match, 6-0, 6-0.

The No. 1 doubles team of Elaine Ni and Jusleen Karve fell, 8-4. Jaclyn Cichon and Joanna MacKay won, 8-3, in the No. 2 position. Serena Lin won in the No. 1 singles spot, defeating Suzanne Ciati, 6-1, 6-2. Cichon and Ni picked up wins in the second and third positions, 6-1, 6-3, and 6-2, 6-1, respectively. Emily Chen shutout Shannon Desroches, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 4 singles. Jusleen Karve earned the final point for the Engineers (3-2, 3-1 NEWMAC), winning 6-1, 6-2, in the last singles spot.

The next match for MIT will be Tuesday, Oct. 5 when it travels to Clark University for NEWMAC play.
