MIT Edges Past Babson, 5-4

CAMBRIDGE, MASS. - Mariah Hoover and Serena Lin's 8-0 doubles win was the deciding factor in MIT's 5-4 victory over defending NEWMAC Champion Babson College on Tuesday. The Engineers now stand at 6-2 overall and 6-1 in Conference play.

Elaine Ni and Joanna MacKay fell in the No. 1 doubles match, 8-3. Hoover and Lin had the crucial win in the No. 2 spot while Jaclyn Cichon and Zandile Williams lost 8-5 in the final position.

Lin posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory in her No. 1 singles match as Cichon lost, 7-5, 6-0. In the No. 3 position, Ni fell in three sets, 6-1, 0-6, 6-4. Emily Chen earned a 6-0, 6-3 win while Hoover earned a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 victory. MacKay closed the day with a 6-0, 7-6 (5) win for Tech.

MIT concludes dual-match competition tomorrow when it hosts Brandeis University at 4:00 p.m.
