Briner Named NEWMAC Field Athlete of the Week

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. –Following an outstanding display at the Engineer's Cup meet over the weekend, senior Hazel Briner was honored as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Field Athlete of the Week on Monday. Briner helped the Cardinal and Gray capture its sixth straight victory in the annual competition with RPI and WPI in convincing fashion. The Engineers recorded 217 team points to finish more than 90 points ahead of runner-up RPI (124.5).

Briner displayed her versatility for the Cardinal and Gray, competing in six events, two on the track and four in the field, and accounting for 25 points on her own. Briner won the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:07.82 and took second place in the long jump (16-2.25 feet) and pole vault (11-7.75 feet). Briner's runner-up performance in the pole vault was good enough to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championship. Briner also scored in the shot put (4th), javelin (6th) 400m hurdles (1st) and 100m hurdles (5th).
