MIT's 4x100 Relay Named NEWMAC Relay of the Week
BOSTON, Mass. – Following a strong weekend in California, the MIT women's track and field team's 4x100 relay was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Relay of the Week on Monday afternoon. In the preseason poll released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) last Wednesday, the Engineers were ranked 10th in the nation.
Tech officially opened the outdoor season at the Westmont Collegiate Classic on Saturday, winning five events and setting one varsity record and one freshman record in the process. The 4x100 relay, which was made up of senior Jackie Brew (Amherst, N.H.), junior Veronica Szklarzewski (Chicago, Ill.), freshman Kendra Knittel (Tucson, Ariz.) and junior Michelle Johnson (Glendora, Calif.), moved up from third to first with its time of 48.59, leaving a three second gap between it and host Westmont's relay.
Next Saturday, April 5, Tech will take part in the Engineer's Cup, which will be between MIT, WPI and host RPI.
