Boston, Mass. (April 18) -- MIT junior thrower Ariela Slutsky (Weston, Fla.) has been named as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Field Athlete of the Week, while the 4x100 relay team has earned weekly relay accolades for the second straight week.
In the dual meet at Williams, Slutsky earned 13 points for the No. 4 ranked Engineers as the captured both the shot put and hammer throw and also finished second in the discus. In the shot put, she threw 38 feet, 7.5 inches to win by 6.25 inches, along with a toss of 163 feet, five inches in the hammer. In the discus, she posted a throw of 130 feet, 10 inches.
For the 4x100 team, the Engineers improved by .99 seconds from a week ago as the team of junior Hannah Chen (Los Gatos, Calif.), freshman Jane Reed (New Canaan, Conn.), freshman Michelle Menkiti (Houston, Texas) and senior Nneoma Okonkwo (Lagos, Nigeria) ran 47.76 and are ranked No. 10 nationally in Division III.
The Engineers are participating in a number of events this upcoming weekend, including hosting the Sean Collier Invitational on Saturday, April 22nd.
