Women's Track and Field Chosen No. 1 in NEWMAC Poll

Westwood, Mass. (March 14) -- In the NEWMAC Women's Outdoor Track and Field Preseason Coaches Poll, the MIT women's track and field team has been voted as the preseason favorites by the league's head coaches. 

The Engineers, under head coach Halston Taylor, enter this year's season following the program's 10th straight NEWMAC Outdoor Championship in 2017 as the team totaled 270 points. MIT had nine event wins and 17 All-Conference performers as then-freshman Michelle Menkiti (Houston, Texas) was honored as the NEWMAC Rookie of the Year. 

The team returns four All-Americans with senior Ariela Slutsky (Weston, Fla.), senior Hannah Chen (Los Gatos, Calif.), sophomore Kari Stromhaug (Vestal, N.Y.) and sophomore Jenna Melanson (Woodland, Wash.) as the Engineers finished 20th as a team at outdoor nationals.
