Women's Track Places Fourth of Six at USM Invitational

GORHAM, Maine - The women's track team opened up the 2006 season at the USM Women's Invitational on Saturday. MIT placed fourth in the six-team field with 90 points. The Southern Maine Huskies won the competition with a score of 196.5. Following were Bates College (107), Colby (94.5), MIT (90), Coast Guard (88) and Mount Holyoke (55).
The Huskies were led by junior Melissa Bellemore, who won the long jump, the pole vault and the 55-meter hurdles. Sophomore teammate Christa Hutchinson was victorious in both the 600 meter and the triple jump.
The Engineers next compete in Williamstown, Mass. against Williams College. The competition will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 21.
