Women's Track and Field Takes First Place At Bowdoin
Jan. 27, 2007
BRUNSWICK, Maine - Freshman Amy Magnuson captured two individual events and junior Allison Brown paced an impressive team performance in the pole vault as MIT women's track and field continued its strong start to the 2006-07 indoor season. MIT totaled 198 points with the host Polar Bears of Bowdoin finishing just back with 173. Colby finished six points ahead of Tufts for third overall in the team standings.
The MIT women's team showcased depth in every area, and although the Engineers orchestrated just five individual victories, they picked up points in every event. Brown and senior Christine Fanchiang pulled away early in the pole vault for the quick one-two finish, while sophomore Emily Hwang and first-year Margaret Leibovic finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Magnuson won the 55-meter hurdles and the triple jump and senior Andrea Staid took the top spot in the 800m. The Engineers also finished one-two in the 5000m. Junior Lauren McCarthy continues to show tremendous improvement and outkicked teammate senior Hana Adaniya for the win after breaking the tape in 18:38.86.
