CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - With a team score of 32.83, the MIT women's track and field team finished 10th out of 28 schools at the New England Division III Championships hosted by Bates College. Christine Fanchiang and Julia Espel picked up bronze medals in the pole vault (10'10") and the steeplechase (11:33.55), respectively.
Right behind Espel was Alisha Schor, who set a personal record of 11:35.24. In the 10,000, Gwen Johnson took sixth in 39:24.02 while Jordan Wirfs-Brock lowered her personal best for the second week in a row to 43:28.34. Leanne Veldhuis clocked 1:08.3 to better the rookie record in the 400 hurdles for a seventh place finish. Meri Silberstein tied for eighth in the 100 with a time of 13.40.
Chi-Fong Wang placed seventh in the javelin with a throw of 113'1". Kay Furman took eighth place in the discus at 103'11". All three relays earned points, with 4x800 leading the way with a fourth-place finish as it recorded its fastest time in four years (9:55.3). The 4x400 placed seventh (4:19.8) and the 4x100 was eighth (53.3).
