CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Portia Jones has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Women's Track Athlete of the Week after a record breaking performance in MIT's first home meet of the season this past weekend.
Jones picked up wins in the 55-meter hurdles and the 400 meter dash while finishing second in the 200 meters. Jones' time of 8.43 in the 55m hurdles, the second best in MIT history, was good for first place. Although she was edged out by Hillary Higgs of Williams by three tenths of a second, Jones (26.37) had by far her best time of the year at 200m. Jones then ran a 59.93 400 meters, breaking an Institute record that had stood for over nine years. As a team, the Engineers finished second behind nationally-ranked No. 11 Williams.
The Cardinal and Grey will host a Coed Invitational next weekend while also taking part in the Valentine's Meet at Boston University.
