CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Emily Hwang has been named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Co-Field Athlete of the Week after helping lead MIT to a second-place finish at the Point Loma Nazarene University Collegiate Challenge last weekend.
Hwang set a new Institute standard in the pole vault, breaking a seven year-old record while also reaching the provisional qualifying height for the NCAA Championship. The senior cleared 12-0.75 feet, more than nine inches better than any other vaulter at the meet.
The Engineers, traveling to San Diego for a spring break trip, finished second among 12 teams from around the country in their first full team competition of the outdoor season. The Cardinal and Grey will be back in action this weekend, taking on RPI and WPI at the Engineer’s Cup on Saturday in Worcester.
