CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Already the all-time winningest head coach in the history of the MIT women's volleyball program, Paul Dill picked up his 400th career victory following a 25-12, 25-17, 25-21 decision over WPI on Tuesday night. The Engineers earned their fourth consecutive NEWMAC win as they improved to 6-2 in league play and 19-12 on the year.
MIT never trailed in the first two sets, rattling off the final five points of the opening stanza and collecting the first eight points of the second set. WPI initially took control of the third frame, jumping out to a 6-1 advantage only to see MIT use a 12-3 spurt midway through the game to seize the lead for good.
As a team, the Engineers had one of their best hitting performances of the season as they registered a .351 hitting percentage. Kelly Schulte posted eight kills on 15 errorless hitting attempts for a .533 hitting percentage while adding two blocks. Trinity Leonard notched a team-high nine kills to go along with two blocks while Cecily Joujon-Roche tallied five kills, four aces, and a block. Jenny Li chipped in four kills as Kristine Bunker added three kills and two blocks. Katie Spielbauer collected 14 digs and two aces while Jess Fessler bolstered the defense with six digs. Sharon Hao dished out 18 assists as Alyssa Rothman totaled nine assists and three aces.
