The Engineers collected their third consecutive honor as they attained a minimum grade point average of 4.2 on a 5.0 scale during the fall semester.
NEWMAC Announces Fall Academic All-Conference AwardsCAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A league-leading 45 athletes represented MIT on the 2011 New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Fall Academic All-Conference Team. Criteria includes a minimum GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale, achieving second year academic status at his or her institution, and being a member of a varsity team for the entire season.
Women's Volleyball Earns Three Capital One Academic All-District Team SelectionsCAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior Kelly Schulte (Riverside, Calif.), junior Katie Spielbauer (Lakeview, Mich.), and sophomore Kristine Bunker (Falmouth, Mass.) were selected to the Capital One Academic All-District women’s volleyball team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Thursday. The trio, which accounts for half of the all-district honorees, will represent MIT on the national ballot and will contend for Academic All-America honors to be voted on later this month.
Women's Volleyball Receives Three All-Conference AccoladesWELLESLEY, Mass. – The MIT women’s volleyball team saw its tri-captains earn NEWMAC all-conference honors, marking the 11th consecutive season the program has received multiple accolades. Springfield Sweeps Women's Volleyball in NEWMAC SemifinalSPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The MIT women’s volleyball team ended its season with a 25-16, 25-10, 25-15 loss to nationally-ranked No. 19 Springfield College in the semifinals of the NEWMAC Championship Tournament on Saturday afternoon. The Engineers ended their campaign with a 23-11 record following their 14th consecutive semifinal appearance.
MIT Defeats WPI, 3-1, in NEWMAC QuarterfinalCAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In a hard-fought battle, No. 4 seeded MIT emerged with a 25-19, 18-25, 25-16, 25-22 victory over No. 5 WPI in a NEWMAC Women’s Volleyball Championship Tournament quarterfinal match on Tuesday night. MIT improved to 23-10 on the season and for the second year in a row it will face host and top seed Springfield College on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 1:00 p.m. Visiting WPI finished its campaign with a record of 19-10.
Engineers Fall to Coast Guard in Five-Set ThrillerNEW LONDON, Conn. – In a back-and-forth five-set battle, the MIT women’s volleyball team fell to host U.S. Coast Guard Academy, 21-25, 25-19, 25-16, 15-25, 15-12, on Saturday afternoon. The Engineers (22-10, 6-3 NEWMAC), seeded No. 4 in the NEWMAC Championship Tournament, will host No. 5 WPI in a first round match on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 7:00 p.m.
Women's Volleyball Sweeps WPI on Senior NightCAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In its final home match of the regular season, the MIT women’s volleyball team defeated WPI, 25-19, 25-15, 25-23, on Tuesday night. The host Engineers improved to 22-9 on the year and 6-2 in NEWMAC play while the visitors saw their ledger lower to 18-9 overall and 4-4 in conference action.
MIT Competes at Hall of Fame TournamentNORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The MIT women’s volleyball team fell to Amherst College (20-25, 25-12, 25-14, 25-27) and Middlebury College (25-23, 34-32, 25-22) but defeated Bridgewater State University (25-7, 25-12, 25-17) at the Hall of Fame Tournament held this past weekend. Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Wheaton, Reaches 20-Win MarkNORTON, Mass. – With a 25-16, 25-20, 25-19 victory over Wheaton College on Tuesday night, the MIT women’s volleyball team reached the 20-win mark for the 16th year in a row. The Engineers (20-7, 5-2 NEWMAC) have accomplished this feat every year during head coach Paul Dill’s tenure while the program has registered double-digit win totals in 34 of 36 seasons.
Engineers Finish Third at MIT Quad TournamentCAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In the seventh annual MIT Quad Tournament held this past weekend, the women’s volleyball team placed third. The Engineers defeated Western New England University (25-18, 29-27, 26-28, 27-25) but fell to Williams College (25-21, 25-16, 26-24) and nationally-ranked No. 17 UMass Boston (23-25, 25-17, 25-27, 25-10, 15-10). Engineers Sweep SmithNORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Following a weeklong hiatus, the MIT women’s volleyball team returned to action with a 25-20, 25-20, 25-21 victory over NEWMAC foe Smith College on Tuesday night. The Engineers, winners in five of their last six matches, saw their ledger improve to 18-5 on the year and 4-2 in league action.
MIT Blanks Babson, 3-0CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In a NEWMAC women’s volleyball match on Tuesday night, host MIT defeated Babson College, 25-18, 25-19, 25-13. With the win, the Engineers improved to 17-5 on the year and 3-2 in the league while the Beavers dipped to 11-7 overall and 2-3 in the NEWMAC.
Women's Volleyball Places Second at Wildcat Fall ClassicPROVIDENCE, R.I. – With a 3-1 ledger, the MIT women’s volleyball team finished second at the Johnson & Wales University Wildcat Fall Classic this past weekend. The Engineers (16-5) swept UMass Dartmouth (25-12, 25-22, 25-23) and City College of New York (25-12, 25-14, 25-2) on Friday. The next day, Tech fell to Plymouth State University (15-25, 25-22, 29-27, 25-17) but bounced back with a 25-14, 25-15, 25-17 win over Western Connecticut State University. Tech Battles No. 21 SpringfieldSPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Facing its first nationally ranked opponent this season, the MIT women’s volleyball team fell to No. 21 Springfield College, 25-18, 28-26, 25-23, in a hard-fought NEWMAC contest on Tuesday night. The loss lowered the Engineers’ record to 13-4 on the year and 2-2 in league play while the Pride improved to 16-0 overall and 4-0 in the NEWMAC.
Engineers Place Fourth at MIT Volleyball InvitationalCAMBRIDGE, Mass. – With a 2-2 ledger, the women’s volleyball team placed fourth at its own MIT Invitational this past weekend. The Engineers finished atop their pool on Friday after sweeping Newbury College (25-9, 25-14, 25-16) and Colby College (25-22, 25-20, 25-22), resulting in a spot in the championship bracket. The next day, MIT fell to Connecticut College (25-22, 25-18, 25-22) in the semifinals and was then defeated by Tufts University (22-25, 27-25, 25-16, 25-17) in the third place match. Women's Volleyball Suffers First Loss of Season to WellesleyCAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Wellesley College ended MIT’s undefeated season with a 27-25, 18-25, 25-15, 25-20 decision in a NEWMAC women’s volleyball match on Tuesday night. The Engineers saw their ledger move to 11-1 on the year and 2-1 in conference action while the Blue improved to 6-3 overall and 2-1 in the NEWMAC.
Engineers Stay Undefeated with Wins Over Clark and SimmonsCAMBRIDGE, Mass. – MIT continued its early season success at its home opener on Saturday as the Engineers picked up a pair of wins to remained undefeated and improve to 11-0. In the first match of the day, MIT swept NEWMAC opponent Clark University before downing Simmons College in the first ever meeting between the two programs in four sets.

She became the 13th player in program history to reach this milestone as the Engineers’ raised their record to 9-0 on the season and 1-0 in NEWMAC play.
Women’s Volleyball to Participate in Dig Pink EventCAMBRIDGE, Mass. – On Saturday, Sept. 17 the MIT women’s volleyball team will join the Side-Out Foundation (Side-Out) in its effort to unite volleyball players and coaches in working towards the common goal of furthering breast cancer awareness, education and patient services. All fans are asked to wear pink and donations will be accepted at the door. The Engineers, currently 9-0 this season, will host NEWMAC rival Clark University and local foe Simmons College in a tri-match beginning at 11:00 a.m.

Women's Volleyball Captures Regis Invitational CrownWESTON, Mass. – The MIT women’s volleyball team opened its season by winning all four matches en route to a first place finish at the Regis College Pride Invitational held this past weekend. Junior Katie Spielbauer (Lakeview, Mich.) was named the Tournament MVP while senior Kelly Schulte (Riverside, Calif.) earned All-Tournament team honors.
MIT Women’s Volleyball Releases 2011 ScheduleCAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT women’s volleyball team will begin its 2011 campaign with its first appearance at the two-day Regis College Tournament on September 2. The tournament is one of six the Engineers will be playing in throughout the season in addition to a nine-match NEWMAC schedule.
MIT Volleyball Receives AVCA Team Academic AwardCAMBRIDGE, Mass. – MIT along with Stanford University were the only institutions to have both its men’s and women’s volleyball teams qualify for the American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award. For the Engineers, this was the third year in a row they were the only Division III institution to accomplish this feat. In addition MIT was the sole representative from the NEWMAC to make the list on the women’s side.
MIT Athletics Fall 2011 Webcast Schedule SetCambridge, Mass. – Webcasting is back for the 2011-12 season for MIT Athletics, with a schedule that includes 26 different contests lined up for the fall it was announced today. Games for field hockey, football, men’s and women’s soccer, women’s volleyball and men’s water polo will all be included in the lineup.
