NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Following a weeklong hiatus, the MIT women's volleyball team returned to action with a 25-20, 25-20, 25-21 victory over NEWMAC foe Smith College on Tuesday night. The Engineers, winners in five of their last six matches, saw their ledger improve to 18-5 on the year and 4-2 in league action.
Senior Cecily Joujon-Roche (Laguna Hills, Calif.) powered the Cardinal and Gray with 12 kills, a .579 hitting percentage, three blocks, and an ace. Sophomore Tatiana Berger (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) notched seven kills, seven digs, and an ace while senior Kelly Schulte (Riverside, Calif.) added seven kills. Sophomore Kristine Bunker (Falmouth, Mass.) recorded five blocks and four kills as fellow classmate Rachel Hunt (Arlington Heights, Ill.) chipped in four kills and three blocks. Junior Katie Spielbauer (Lakeview, Mich.) amassed 15 digs while senior Natasha Jensen (Columbia, Md.) had four of her own. Freshman Nicole Gagnier (Atlanta, Ga.) rounded out the squad with 31 assists, three blocks, three digs, and an ace.
This weekend MIT will host its seventh annual Quad Tournament featuring nationally-ranked No. 17 UMass Boston, Western New England University, and Williams College.
