Women's Volleyball Receives Three All-Conference Accolades
WELLESLEY, Mass. – The MIT women's volleyball team saw its tri-captains earn NEWMAC all-conference honors, marking the 11th consecutive season the program has received multiple accolades. Senior Kelly Schulte (Riverside, Calif.) and junior Katie Spielbauer (Lakeview, Mich.) were named to the first team while senior Cecily Joujon-Roche (Laguna Hills, Calif.) was tabbed to the second team.
A second team selection last year, Schulte ranked 10th in the NEWMAC in blocks (69) and placed eighth on the Engineers' all-time list with 269 career blocks. She led the team in kills (249), was third in blocks, and fifth in aces (28).
Spielbauer received her first award from the league after leading the NEWMAC in aces (82) and finishing 10th in digs (420). Her serving performance ranks fourth in program history and she currently stands sixth in career digs with 1,319.
The 2008 NEWMAC Rookie of the Year, Joujon-Roche collected her second conference accolade after placing second in hitting percentage (.348) and fifth in blocks (78) among the league leaders. She paced MIT in hitting percentage, was second in blocks, and third in kills (197) and aces (40). In addition, Joujon-Roche graduates sixth all-time in career blocks (308) and blocks per set (0.86).
