CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior Katie Spielbauer (Lakeview, Mich.) became the first player in the history of the MIT women's volleyball program to be named to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Women's Volleyball Division III New England All-Star Team as she earned a spot on the second team. She was one of three players to represent the NEWMAC on the list.
An AVCA All-New England selection, Spielbauer is the first libero in the history of the NEWMAC to be selected Athlete of the Year and she earned her second straight first-team all-conference selection. A three-time NEWMAC academic all-conference honoree, she collected Capital One Academic All-America second team plaudits earlier this week. Spielbauer led the NEWMAC in digs (665) and digs per set (5.24) while tying for second in aces (65) and tying for third in aces per set (0.51). She graduates ranked second in the MIT recordbook for career digs (1,984), tied for second in career digs per set (4.03), and seventh in career aces (186).
