Abby Bertics Tabbed for NEWMAC Volleyball Offensive Athlete of the Week Accolades

Westwood, Mass. (October 30) – For the third time this season, MIT junior Abby Bertics (La Jolla, Calif.) was selected as the NEWMAC Women's Volleyball Offensive Athlete of the Week. In a 2-0 week for the nationally-ranked No. 22 Engineers, she recorded 31 kills and a .394 hitting percentage.

Last Tuesday, Bertics produced a match-high 16 kills to go along with a .364 hitting performance in a sweep of Emerson College. She then led all players with 15 kills while hitting .424 in a 3-0 win at WPI on Saturday.

The Cardinal and Gray (26-2, 10-0 NEWMAC) returns to action this weekend as the top seed in the NEWMAC Tournament. The recipients of a bye for the quarterfinals, MIT will host the semifinals and championship on Saturday, Nov. 4 and Sunday, Nov. 5. In their semifinal match slated for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4, the Engineers will face off with either No. 4 seed Wheaton College or No. 5 Clark University.
