CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - No. 3 Amherst College overpowered No. 6 Emmanuel College, 30-10, 30-9, 30-17, in an NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball New England Regional match on Thursday. The Jeffs (28-4) will face either No. 2 MIT or No. 7 Bridgewater State College at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Saints close the season with a 21-11 record.
Amherst recorded 17 of the first 18 points en route to an opening game victory. The Jeffs posted several four- and five-points runs in the second stanza to maintain control of the contest.
In the final game, Amherst established a 19-9 advantage. Emmanuel registered the next three points to narrow the gap to seven. The Jeffs responded by taking 11 of the next 16 points for the win.
Whitney Kouvaris finished with an efficient hitting performance for Amherst as she tallied 10-errorless kills on 16 swings for a .625 hitting percentage. Kristin Quinn notched 10 kills as well while Jaclyn DeMais posted a match-high 12 kills and 21 digs. Bethany Belisle bolstered the Jeffs' defense with 17 digs as Kouvaris and Sara Heller each contributed 10. Quinn and Kovaris combined for seven of Amherst's 11 aces while Heller distributed 38 assists.
Lindsey Parker led Emmanuel's attack with five kills while Diana Grimaldi chipped in four of her own. Beth Ferreira totaled 11 assists and 11 digs as Meagan McGivern notched three blocks.
