Wentz, Taylor Named Best in New England

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Following MIT's first-ever Division III New England Regional Women's Cross Country Championship, senior Jacqui Wentz and coach Halston Taylor were honored by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Tuesday. Wentz was named the New England Women's Regional Athlete of the Year while Taylor was selected as Women's Regional Coach of the Year.

Wentz was the top overall finisher at Saturday's Regional Championship, helping the Engineers grab a share of the team title for the first time in program history. Wentz navigated the six-kilometer course in 21:35.7, nearly four seconds faster than her nearest competitor. Wentz was also the runner-up at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship, behind teammate Maria Monks, as MIT captured its third-straight conference crown.

Taylor has led the Cardinal and Grey to the no. four national ranking heading into this weekend's National Championship. Taylor also guided his women's squad to the NEWMAC Championship for the third year in a row and sixth overall.

Wentz, Taylor and the rest of the Engineers will attempt to capture the first NCAA Team National Championship in Institute history this Saturday, November 21. The meet, hosted by Baldwin-Wallace College in Cleveland, Ohio, begins at 11:00 a.m. with the women's race.
