Six Tech Harriers Land on Cross Country All-Academic Team
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Coming off one of the best seasons in the history of the MIT cross country program, six student-athletes were honored for their academic excellence by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Three men's runners and three women earned the All-Academic distinction from the USTFCCCA, after placing in the top 35 at the NCAA New England Division III Championship and compiling a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30 or greater.
Welle finished sixth overall at the NCAA Regional Championship, MIT's best individual showing since 2004, as he helped Tech capture the team title for the first time in program history. Harper came in 11th overall while Serene was 29th. The three harriers also helped Tech take 12th place at the NCAA Division III National Championship.
Eve, Gatowski, Morimoto and the rest of the women's squad took fourth place the Division III New England meet before improving to third in the country at the NCAA Championship the following weekend. Morimoto and Gatowski posted back-to-back eighth and ninth-place finishes while Eve was 21st overall at the New England Championship.
