CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After earning a pair of third place finishes at the New England Division III Regional Championships over the weekend, the No. 16 men's cross country team and the No. 4 women's cross country teams received at-large bids to the 2013 NCAA Division III Championships, which will take place at Hanover College on Saturday, Nov. 23. The last time both squads qualified for the same national championship was in 2010.
At the University of Southern Maine this past Saturday, the men's team wrapped up the day in third out of 50 teams with 113 points, improving on its ninth place finish from last year. Earning All-Region honors for finishing in the top 35 were senior Roy Wedge (Lawrence, Kan.), junior Allen Leung (Arcadia, Calif.), sophomore Matthew Deyo (Manlius, N.Y.) and freshman Rory Beyer (San Mateo, Calif.).
On the women's side, the Engineers ended up with 127 points, finishing behind nationally ranked Williams College and Middlebury College. Many of MIT's highly ranked rivals also earned bids to the Championships. Seniors Louise van den Heuvel (Nashua, N.H.) andKaitlin Allen (Bedford, N.H.), and juniors Elaine McVay (San Ramon, Calif.) and Kali Benavides (Miami, Fla.) all earned All-Region honors.
Tech's women finished in sixth place at last year's NCAA Championships at Rose-Hulman, while the men's team did not qualify.
On Saturday, the women's 6k race will begin at 11:00 a.m. and the men's 8k will follow at 12:30 p.m.
