BOSTON, Mass. – The nationally-ranked No. 12 MIT women's cross country team finished 15th overall and sixth among Division III squads at the highly competitive All-Division New England Championship, Saturday at Franklin Park. The race snapped the Engineers' streak of three consecutive first place team finishes.
Junior Jacqui Wentz paced Tech, finishing the five-kilometer course in 18:31, good for 29th out of over 300 runners. Andrea Bradshaw was the second best MIT harrier, finishing 87th overall with a time of 19:19. Janice O'Brien was six seconds and nine places behind. Anna Holt-Gosselin crossed the finish line in 19:28 in 102nd place. Alicia Kaestli (19:33) rounded out the scoring for the Cardinal and Gray at 110th.
The race was dominated by the squad from Boston College, whose five best runners all finished in the top 11. The Eagles' 38 points was more than 100 points better than the runners-up, Brown (141). Andrea Walkonen from Boston University was the top individual finisher with a time of 17:19.
Tech's 15th place finish was best among the seven NEWMAC teams in the meet. Springfield had the next best showing, coming in 24th.
