Miles Roberts is in his second year as Director of Athletics Communications at MIT in 2025-26.
Roberts joined MIT in July 2024 after nine-plus years at Wellesley College, most recently as the Director of Physical Education, Recreation and Athletics (PERA) Communications and New Media. As Director of Communications & New Media, Roberts served as part of PERA's senior staff leadership team and was responsible for the supervision of departmental communications, social media, and external media support for each of Wellesley's 13 intercollegiate athletic programs. Roberts worked with campus partners including the Office of Communications and Public Affairs to promote PERA's mission and student-athletes and was responsible for the supervision of the Hall of Fame Committee and Friends of Wellesley Athletics communications. Additionally, he supervised gameday sports information, athletics licensing, trademarking and brand management.
Roberts originally joined Wellesley in October 2014 as interim Sports Information Director. While at Wellesley, his efforts culminated in an ESPN W Top-10 highlight featuring the Blue volleyball team, coverage of Wellesley student-athletes and programming in NCAA Champion Magazine, and nationwide coverage in numerous hometown newspapers. Roberts oversaw multiple redesigns of the department's website and enhancements in live streaming quality and availability for on-campus events. In addition, he implemented a strategic plan with a focus on increased social media use and established an Instagram account that grew by nearly 3,000 followers.
In 2021, Roberts was recognized with the Winter Division III and D3SIDA Recognition Award for highlighting personal stories and perspectives from Wellesley student-athletes during the NCAA Diversity and Inclusion Social Media Campaign. In 2022, he was the District I Winner of the CoSIDA Fred S. Stabley Writing Contest for his Coach/Administrator Profile Essential to Health Care: Wellesley's Athletic Trainers Reflect on a Year Like No Other, detailing the experiences of Wellesley's athletic training staff during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Roberts was the chair of the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Sports Information Directors Group from 2017-2019 and has previously served as chair of the NEWMAC's Awards Committee and as a member of the NEWMAC's Strategic Communications Committee. He presented at ECAC-SIDA Sports Information Workshops in 2018 and 2019, focusing on "Spotlighting the Student in Student-Athlete" in 2018, while having the opportunity to present alongside Amy Wilson, Managing Director of Inclusion at the NCAA on "Inclusion in Intercollegiate Athletics" in 2019.
Prior to arriving at Wellesley, Roberts spent four years at Pine Manor College in Chestnut Hill, Mass. While at Pine Manor, Roberts served in a variety of roles, including as Assistant Athletic Director and Sports Information Director, Head Volleyball Coach and Assistant Volleyball Coach. Before Pine Manor, Roberts took part in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) internship program. He wrote stories as a website correspondent and also attended the 2010 GNAC Professional Development Seminar in Boston.
He has worked as a media volunteer for United States Golf Association (USGA) Communications on three occasions, including the 2017 U.S. Senior Open at Salem Country Club in Peabody, Mass., the 2022 U.S. Open at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass., and at the 2024 U.S. Senior Open at Newport Country Club in Newport, R.I. In addition, he was a media volunteer at the 2024 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball March Madness East Regional at TD Garden in Boston.
A 2010 graduate of Boston University with a double major in Political Science and American Studies, Roberts is a member of the Eastern Athletic Communications Association (EAST-COMM) and the College Sports Communicators (CSC; formerly CoSIDA). He currently resides in Newton, Mass. with his wife Kelsey and their son Jordan.
