Cambridge, Mass. (August 18) -- MIT and the Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation (DAPER) will be holding the 2016 MIT Golf Outing on Tuesday, October 4th at Pound Ridge Golf Club in Pound Ridge, N.Y. This marks the fourth straight year the event has been held at Pound Ridge, which is rated the #1 Open-worthy public course in New York by Golf Magazine.
Golfers can register as individuals or foursomes by clicking here, with sponsorships for the event also available. On the day of the event, registration and a continental breakfast will begin at 9:30 a.m., with an 11:30 a.m. shotgun start. The post-round reception will begin at approximately 4:30 p.m.
The event is a scramble format that is open to golfers of all levels as the event provides the opportunity to catch up with fellow alumni, current and past parents and members of the MIT staff. In addition, a number of MIT professors and members of the club golf team will be playing in the event.
At dinner, world-renowned golf analytics expert Mark Broadie will present: Data Analytics to Improve Golf Performance and Strategy. Broadie is the Carson Family Professor of Business at the Columbia Business School. Professor Broadie's research addresses issues in quantitative finance and sports analytics and, more generally, methods for decision making under uncertainty. In his golf research, Broadie developed the new strokes gained golf stats that are used by the PGA Tour. He works with a number of PGA Tour coaches and pros and writes a monthly column for GOLF magazine.
His New York Times bestselling book Every Shot Counts uses data and analytics to measure and improve golf performance and strategy. As part of the event, Broadie will be autographing copies of Every Shot Counts for each of the golfers in the field.
Each golfer will receive a gift bag with MIT Athletics apparel and golf items, in addition to the opportunity to enter a putting contest for a chance to win $10,000!

A special thanks to owner and alumnus Ken Wang `71 for hosting this event for four years in a row. Pound Ridge is a 7,165-yard, par-72 course that was designed by legendary architect Pete Dye and has been recognized nationally for it's outstanding layout. The rain date for this year's outing is October 18th.
