Summer Hutcheson has been a member of the MIT Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation staff since 2005 as both an administrator and coach. As the Special Assistant to the Director of Athletics she is responsible for a number of administrative areas, including supervising the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and oversight of assigned budget areas and the overall management of the management of the office. Hutchinson also organizes meetings and special events for the department, as well as managing community service projects.  She also coordinates the department’s external review every two years by its Visiting Committee.

Hutcheson also serves as an assistant coach with the MIT cross country and track and field programs. She assists with the development and implementation of cross country, sprint, middle-distance and distance workouts, assists with meet organization, serves as a mentor for the student-athletes and conducts on-campus visits with prospective student-athletes.

Prior to joining the staff at MIT, Hutcheson spent a year as an assistant cross country/track & field coach at the University of Tulsa (2004-05) and at Minot State University (2003-04). She also spent three years at Faith Academy in Mobile, Alabama teaching English and public speaking as well as coaching the boy’s and girl’s track and field teams. In 2003 she led both squads to state championships.

A 2000 graduate of the University of Mobile with a B.A. in English, Hutcheson was an All-American in the mile run and a six-time Academic All-American in cross country and track and field. She earned an M.A. in education from Minot State in 2010.
