Engineers Close Out Regular Season At Coast Guard

Feb. 11, 2006

NEW LONDON, Conn. - MIT rifle lost its last scheduled match of the 2005-06 season, but the close loss at Coast Guard did little to mar an otherwise outstanding campaign for the Cardinal and Gray.

The Bears defeated MIT in air rifle, 2264-2130 and outpaced the Engineers in smallbore, 2250-2168 as MIT's season ledger fell to 12-3 in the gun. Tech finished the slate with a 10-3 record in air rifle.

Anton Katz shot a season-high 583 in smallbore to win the event, although Coast Guard grabbed four of the next five spots to come away with the team victory. Nathan Pfaff (561) and Jake Latcham (548) also produced new high's in smallbore, while Jonathan Burnham earned a spot on the scoring team for the first time this season.

Katz continued his dominance by shooting a match-high in air rifle with a score of 580, but again the Bears' depth served as the key, resulting in the next four top scores. Grant Wyman paced the Coast Guard attack with a total of 571. Pfaff was Tech's second highest finisher after totaling 550. Laura Fallon made her debut on the scoring team during the weekend and shot her best performance of the season.
