CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - MIT rifle capped its season with a 2198-2176 victory over Penn State in the Expert Division of air rifle at the 2008 Mid-Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championships.
The Nittany Lions showcased the top marksman in the match as Jen Hawk led all shooters with a total of 569. Hawk fired a 98 on her final target card to vault from third to first in the individual standings. MIT's tandem of sophomore Emily Houston and freshman Joseph Lane countered Hawk's total by tying for second place with a score of 568. Houston was at her strongest during the middle of the competition while Lane finished well in matching Houston for the team lead.
Penn State's Ryan Guffey scored 547 to finish next, but MIT placed its third competitor just back as Jennifer Paek totaled 542. Paek rebounded on her final target card to pick up critical points for the Engineers after two scores in the 80's. Justine Li scored 520 to cap the scoring for the Cardinal and Gray, including an impressive 92 on her fourth target card.
The U.S. Naval Academy captured the team title in both air and smallbore with wins against Akron at the Master Division while Coast Guard topped Penn State, 2228-2198, in the Expert Division of smallbore.
