CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A total of six boats represented the nationally-ranked No. 14 MIT sailing team in its home Midweek Tech Invite on Thursday afternoon. Of 20 entries, the Engineers placed ninth, 11th, 13th, 17th, 18th, and 20th.
Freshman Beckett Colson (Weston, Mass.) and classmate Kayla Ngan (Sudbury, Mass.) captured the highest finish for the Cardinal and Gray as they finished in the top 10 in four out of five rounds, capped with a third-place performance in the final outing of the day. Sophomore Brian Belding (Woodstown, N.J.) and junior Grace Krusell (Newington, Conn.) ranked 11th courtesy of placements of eighth and 10th in the first and last races, respectively. Freshmen Lisa Archibald (Istanbul, Turkey) and Victoria Stivanello (Douglaston, N.Y.) used a pair of 11th-place finishes to rank 13th overall while fellow rookies Jamila Smith-Dell (Medford, Mass.) and Alissa Borshchenko (Brooklyn, N.Y.) secured 17th place on the strength of three straight 16th-place outings. Junior Sarah Mountjoy (Melbourne, Australia) and sophomore Christina Wettersten (Palo Alto, Calif.) were 18th as their highlight of the day was capturing 13th place in the final rotation. Freshmen Noam Buckman (Atlanta, Ga.) and Pedro Brito rounded out the squad in 20th place as their best showing was 17th in the fourth race.
This weekend MIT will host the Smith Trophy and will also compete in the Danmark Trophy, the Women's New England Singlehanded Championship, and the Charles River Invitational.
