NEW LONDON, Conn. – The No. 14 MIT sailing team claimed seventh place with a record of 4-7 at the Jan T. Friis Team Race hosted by the U.S. Coast Guard Academy over the weekend.
The skippers for the Engineers' included senior David Larson (La Jolla, Calif.), classmate Joe Paggi (Bayville, N.J.), junior Alec Stewart (Duxbury, Mass.) and sophomores Ty Ingram (White Plains, N.Y.) and Cutter O'Connell (San Diego, Calif.). Seniors Elizabeth Zhang (Lexington, Mass.), Lisa Sukharev-Chuyan (Temple, N.H.), Christopher Ford (Millbrae, Calif.), junior Jordan Ladd (St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands) and sophomore Greta Farrell (Huntington, N.Y.) served as the crew for MIT at the regatta.
MIT found success in round one against four opponents. The Engineers finished first, second and fourth against No. 9 ranked Boston University and Fordham University. Head-to-head versus No. 3 Coast Guard, MIT took first, third and sixth for the win, while MIT took first, third and fourth over No. 15 George Washington to round out the regatta.
The Engineers return to action next weekend in a trio of regattas. MIT hosts the Lynne Marchiando Team Race, while also traveling to the Boston University Trophy and the Central Series III, hosted by Harvard University.
