HANOVER, N.H. – B-Division skipper Josh Leighton and crew Vicki Lee finished fifth in their circuit as the MIT sailing team placed seventh overall out of 20 teams at the Captain Hurst Bowl hosted by UMass Dartmouth this past weekend.

It was another awesome outing for the Cardinal and Gray duo, which led the Engineers to their strong ninth place ranking at the Hatch Brown Trophy last month, while slotting fourth in its group.

This time around, Leighton and Lee finished in the top 5 in four of the 10 rounds, including a first-place mark in the second joust, while only twice ranking worse than 10th.

A-Division leader Brooks Reed and crew Karlen Ruleman also competed, with their best showing a fifth-place slot in the fifth tilt.

A weak northerly current finally built to 12 knots on Saturday, while Sunday featured a beautiful scene as steam rose off the gleaming Mascoma Lake during the crisp morning air. While starting with a strong northerly wind on the second day, races had to be called later due to the fading breeze.

Boston College won the event with a score of 97. Rounding out the top five were Tufts University, Boston University, Brown University, and St. Mary’s College.
