    DANBURY, Conn. – After a record setting year, freshman Austin Filiere (Chandler, Ariz.) was named the Rookie of the Year for the New England region by the ECAC the league announced, with head coach Andy Barlow being recognized by the organization as the Co-Coach of the Year.

    AUSTIN, Texas – A pair of seniors from the MIT baseball team capped off their careers today with prestigious national honors when Hayden Cornwell (Newport Beach, Calif.) and Parker Tew (Chapel Hill, N.C.) were selected to the 2015 Capitol One Academic All-America Division III Baseball Team.

The Engineers will be the No. 5 seed in the New England Regional, which will be played at Whitehouse Field in Harwich, Massachusetts.

Senior Hayden Cornwell (Newport Beach, Calif.) went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI, while freshman Zach Michaud (Moorestown, N.J.) had a strong start on the mound for the Engineers, allowing just one run over five innings of work.

    BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott College scored a pair of runs in the second and third innings and received a strong start from pitcher JJ Branch as the Gulls scored a 6-2 victory over MIT in non-conference baseball action. MIT was held to five hits in the contest, with sophomore John Drago (Peoria, Ariz.) picking up the only extra-base hit for the Engineers with a run-scoring double.

    CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Like it did in the first of the three-game 2015 New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Baseball Championship series, MIT took and early lead and then held off Wheaton College down the stretch as the Engineers claimed a 5-4 victory over the Lyons, giving MIT a 2-1 series win and its second straight NEWMAC championship. Senior Parker Tew (Chapel Hill, N.C.) had three hits and drove in a run in the final game and was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.

    CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – MIT and Wheaton College will play for the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) baseball championship tomorrow after the two teams split the first two games of the best of three championship series this afternoon. MIT won the first game, 10-7, before Wheaton came back to take the nightcap, 7-5.

Freshman Austin Filiere (Chandler, Ariz.) drove in the winning runs in the seventh and freshman Will Loucks (Las Vegas, Nev.) turned in a strong starting performance on the mound to carry the Engineers to the win.
