Boston, Mass. (April 10) -- MIT freshman Matt Johnston (Portola Valley, Calif.) was named as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player of the Week, while sophomore pitcher Patrick Callahan (Vicksburg, Mich.) earned Pitcher of the Week honors.
In a 3-2 week for MIT, Johnston hit a team-best .571 with hits in all five games. He posted eight runs, 12 hits and seven runs batted in that included four doubles, one triple and one home run. Johnston finished with 21 total bases for the week and two walks while posting a 1.000 slugging percentage and a .609 on-base percentage.
Callahan was honored for the first time after going 2-0 with road wins over Clark and Emerson. Allowing one run over 13 innings, he had a 0.69 ERA and a .095 opponent batting average to go along with 14 strikeouts. In the win at Emerson, he pitched six hitless innings as the Engineers earned the victory.
MIT is back in action on Tuesday afternoon as the Engineers host WPI for a single NEWMAC game beginning at 3:30 p.m. at Fran O'Brien Field.
