Filiere Named to ABCA/Rawlings Division III All-America Second Team

Appleton, Wis. (May 26) -- MIT junior shortstop Austin Filiere (Chandler, Ariz.) has been named as a 2017 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division III Second Team All-America selection, as announced at the opening ceremonies of the NCAA Division III College World Series.

A First Team ABCA/Rawlings All-Region honoree, Filiere was named as the NEWMAC Player of the Year for the second time in his career along with earning NEWMAC First Team All-Conference honors for the third time. This is also the third ABCA/Rawlings All-America honor for Filiere, including his second time being named to the Second Team.

Honored as a All-Region selection, Filiere was named as the Top MLB Division III Draft Prospect by Baseball America and in 2017, he put together another outstanding season. Posting a .375 batting average, Filiere led the NEWMAC with a .794 slugging percentage, placing him 108 points higher than second in the league. He also posted a league-best .530 on-base percentage to go along with a league-leading 13 home runs, 108 total bases and 41 walks. Filiere ended the season reaching base successfully in 64 straight games dating back to 2016, which is the third-longest streak in NCAA Division III history.
